Welcome to Ajou University!

 

This pre-arrival information includes crucial information for your stay in Korea, and we hope this information will be helpful for you to prepare for your departure to Ajou!

 

 

  • Applying for Student Visa (D-2)

 

All international students are required to obtain D-2 (Study) visa for your studies at Ajou.

 

In order to obtain a D-2 visa, please visit the nearest Korean Embassy in your country with the Certificate of Admission, Invitation Letter and Certificate of Scholarship (if applicable). As required documents can vary for each country, please check the required documents in advance with the Korean Embassy.

 

Please note that you need to sign the Certificate of Admission issued by Ajou University before submitting it to the embassy. If you have already obtained another type of visa, you must change it to D-2.

 

For Chinese students, please refer to the enclosed document about the visa application.

 

If you have any questions regarding visa issuance, please feel free to contact the Office of Graduate School at grad@ajou.ac.kr.

 

  • Orientation

 

The orientation is a mandatory program; all international students are required to participate in the Orientation. During the orientation, the Office of International Affairs will be there to meet and to assist you with any questions you may have for staying at Ajou University. Participating in the orientation session is very important to guaranteeing success in Korea and your studies.

 

 

 

Session 1: Orientation for ALL New International Students

(including exchange & visiting students)

Date: 10:00am to 1pm, Thursday, August 28th

Venue: Auditorium, Yulgok Hall

Session 2: Orientation for Graduate School

Date: 2pm to 4pm, Thursday, August 28th

Venue: No. 358 , Yulgok Hall

During the orientation, important information such as academic schedule, tips for living in Korea, alien registration and so on will be introduced to make your stay comfortable. A campus tour and welcoming reception will also be arranged.

 

 

 

 

  • How to Come to Ajou University from Incheon Int’l Airport

 

Airport pick-up service

 

Airport pick-up service is available only for the students who apply for it in advance.(see the enclosed arrival information form). Airport pick-up service is available on August 26(Tuesday) and 27 (Wednesday), for two days at Seoul-Incheon International Airport.

 

In order to use this service, you need to complete the survey on your trip to Korea on the below web page by Aug 6(Wednesday). Please refer to the enclosed “Arrival Information Form”.

Ajou students will pick you up at the airport between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm for two days. When you arrive at the airport, please wait for the A.G.A. students (Ajou Global Ambassador: student volunteer group) inside of Exit No. 7. (Please don’t go out of the airport.)

 

They will hold an “Ajou University” sign in front of Exit No. 7 at the 1st floor and will guide you to take the limousine bus heading to Ajou University.

 

Students without pick-up service

 

Please refer to the below information about how to come to Ajou University from the Incheon International Airport. If you are planning to stay in the dormitory, please go directly to Hwa-hong Hall and contact the dormitory international coordinator. The coordinator’s office is on the first floor of Hwa-hong Hall, and she will assist you to move you in.

 

 

 

  1. Arrival at Incheon International Airport (International Arrival, 1st floor)
  2. Go to EXIT No. 7 (International Arrival, 1st floor)
  3. Take the airport limousine bus toward “East Suwon” at 7A Bus Stop (Gyeonggi).

(12,000 Won / USD10)

  1. Get off at the last bus stop, “Hotel Castle”
  2. Take a taxi to Ajou University from Hotel Castle. (about 3,000 KRW/ US$ 3)

  • Bus tickets are sold at the airport, but the driver will also accept the fare directly when you board.

  • Dormitory

 

Dormitory Application

 

a. Free housing beneficiary

Students who were nominated as free housing beneficiary don’t need to apply for the housing, which means they are automatically arranged by the dormitory. The final list for the Fall 2014 Room Assignment will be posted on the official dormitory website in August.

 

b. Non free housing beneficiary

The application period is from July 14(Mon.) to Aug 5th(Tue.). Please note that housing application after the application period cannot be accepted. The application will be only available on the on-line application system at Ajou website (http://edorm.ajou.ac.kr). Please see the enclosed “Notice on the housing application”.

 

Housing

 

Students who applied for the dormitory will be placed in Hwa-hong Hall, which provides free broad band Internet access, shared bathrooms, a small kitchen, exercise room, etc. At Hwa-hong Hall, female and male students stay on different floors. Students of different gender cannot stay on the same floor or room.

 

University dormitory will open on Aug 26th (Tuesday), 2014 for new coming students for the 2014 Fall semester. Please set your flight schedule to arrive after Aug 26th. Please be noticed that it is impossible to move into the dormitory before the dormitory opening date.

Meals

 

Students can buy various styles of meals on and off-campus, and also cook some instant snacks in the shared kitchen of the dormitory. Students usually use the kitchen to cook noodles, toast, and small snacks or to keep their own food in the common refrigerator. Normal meal prices range from 3,500 won to 5,000 won (approx. US$ 3~5) per meal.

 

 

  • Health Insurance and Health Record Form

 

Health Insurance

 

All International students who are studying at Ajou University are required to purchase their own health insurance. Students can buy the insurance in their home countries, or can buy the insurance after arriving in Korea.

 

If you purchase the insurance in your home country, please submit a copy of the health insurance contract which covers the period of your stay at Ajou University for the first week of the semester.

 

If you would like to purchase the insurance at Ajou University, you should apply for the insurance with information given at the orientation. Detailed insurance information will be announced at the orientation.

 

Please notice that having insurance is mandatory required by the university for your duration of stay at Ajou, and also notice that the issuance of the documents such as Certificate of Transcripts, Certificate of Enrollment, etc., will be restricted when a student doesn’t submit a copy of the health insurance.

 

Before you purchase the insurance, please carefully read insurance information.

Health Record

 

For the common safety of dormitory residents, students with the tuberculosis or other contagious diseases are not allowed to stay in the dormitory.

Therefore, all dormitory applicants should submit a health record issued by a doctor proving that they are safe from TB (tuberculosis), and the record must be written either in English for verification purpose. Please send your health record proving ‘tuberculosis free’ as a scanned version in English including your name to grad@ajou.ac.kr until Aug. 22th(Fri.)

 

  • Bank Account Opening

 

If you would like to open a bank account in Korea, please don’t forget to bring your ID card such as Residential identification or driver’s license from your home country. Also, you need to bring your Ajou University student ID card and passport to the bank.
